Scripture For Today: Psalm 53; 2 Timothy 2:24-26; 1 Peter 5:8-11

Oh that the salvation of Israel were come out of Zion! When God bringeth back the captivity of his people, Jacob shall rejoice, and Israel shall be glad.
Psalm 53:6

Capture the flag has been a favorite camp game for many generations. The basic rules are that each team has a flag that the other team tries to capture and take back to their territory to win the game. The playing area is divided in half with each side belonging to one of the two teams. The game is played by opposing team members crossing into enemy territory, searching for the flag, capturing it, and getting back to their own home territory without getting caught by the other team. While in enemy territory if the opposing team discovers you and tags you, then you go to jail. The only way out of jail is for one of your own team members to penetrate enemy territory, find the jail, and set you free by tagging you. I hate being in jail, and love being set free to join the battle with my team.

In Psalms 53 David is facing the increasing pressure of the world and it’s philosophies concerning God, life, and the value of living for God. It was a time of captivity of God’s people to the godless oppressors of the world who wanted to quiet the message of righteousness from God’s people and take them captive to the thoughts and ways of Satan that control the world and it’s citizens. David longed for the deliverer to come and set them free from their jail. He recognized that only God could change their conditions and declared in anticipation the joy and rejoicing of God’s people when they had been set free.

We live in a world under the control of our enemy Satan and his demonic forces using the weapons in their arsenal to take our minds captive to their way of thinking and then our lives to their way of living. When you begin to think the enemies way you will soon be acting as he desires; those two simple things make you a captive in enemy territory who needs someone to break through and set you free from the jail.

Good news! You can be set free when you give control of your mind back to The Lord Jesus Christ, and begin to resist the thought patterns of the world. God tells us that we can be recovered; “And that they may recover themselves out of the snare of the devil, who are taken captive by him at his will.” 2 Timothy 2:26. You can even prevent being taken captive today by giving control of your mind and life now to Christ and in Him resisting Satan and his forces. “Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour: 9 Whom resist stedfast in the faith, knowing that the same afflictions are accomplished in your brethren that are in the world. 10 But the God of all grace, who hath called us unto his eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after that ye have suffered a while, make you perfect, stablish, strengthen, settle you. 11 To him be glory and dominion for ever and ever. Amen.” 1 Peter 5:8-11. Today determine to be free from the captivity of your mind and life by submitting your thoughts to God and resisting the thoughts and ways of Satan and join in the battle for the hearts and minds of men.
