Scripture For Today: 1 John 3:1-24

“My little children, let us not love in word, neither in tongue; but in deed and in truth.”
1 John 3:18

If I told you I was mechanic and never fixed a car, you would soon know I am not a mechanic at all. Saying that something is so does not make it true. If I tell you I am a Christian and that I love the brethren and never meet the needs that I can in real ways, you would soon know that I am no Christian at all. Our new birth is testified to by the living of love in one another’s lives. No works of love, no love. Love that is expressed in word’s with no actions is not love at all. Christians love fellow christians in actual activity directed at the pursuit of the other’s highest good.

“The thing we must understand is that real love produces real effect because it takes real action.”

In 1 John 3:1 there is a declaration of God’s love being bestowed on or given to us and the evidence of it being given is our new birth. “Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God: therefore the world knoweth us not, because it knew him not.” 1 John 3:1. Jesus had to actually physically come to earth and take on flesh, He had to actually live and be tempted in every way as we are, yet without sin, He had to be actually beaten by the Roman soldiers, He had to actually be nailed to the cross, He had to actually die as our sin bearer in order for His love for us to be manifested and effective in our lives. If Jesus had “felt” like coming and redeeming us but never actually left heavens throne room, there would be no salvation and no real evidence in our life that God is love. Calvary proves God’s love for us and His love proven on Calvary actually does something for us, it provides us with the adoption of sons that we may be called the sons of God. Real love produced real actions of sacrifice that produce real redemption and forgiveness of sin in your life. The thing we must understand is that real love produces real effect because it takes real action. In our life God’s bestowed love provides you with real salvation because love caused Him to do the real work of paying the price of our redemption. God’s bestowed love goes further.
